Every Georgian deserves to feel safe behind their own front door. Florida, Virginia, and Nevada have already passed Miya’s Law with overwhelming bipartisan support. Now it is Georgia’s turn.
Georgia’s Safe at Home Act of 2024 was a critical first step for habitability. But it does not address who can enter your apartment, or who is issued a master key to your home. Miya’s Law closes that gap.
In every state that has taken up Miya’s Law, it has passed with overwhelming support from Democrats and Republicans, and been signed into law by the sitting governor.

Dear [Senator or Representative last name],
My name is [your name] and I am your constituent in [your city]. I am writing to ask you to support Miya’s Law when it is introduced in the 2027 Georgia General Assembly session by Representative Imani Barnes.
Miya’s Law is a common-sense tenant safety bill named after Miya Marcano, a 19-year-old college student who was murdered inside her own apartment by a maintenance worker who used a master key. This bill would require criminal background checks that screen across all 50 states, sex offender registry screening, 24-hour notice before landlord entry, key control logs, and automatic disqualification for staff convicted of violent felonies.
Miya’s Law has already passed in Florida, Virginia, and Nevada. Every one of those laws passed with bipartisan support. Every one was signed by a Republican governor. Tenant safety is not a partisan issue. It is a human one.
Georgia has more than 1.4 million renter households. Every one of those Georgians, whether students, seniors, working families, or single parents, deserves the same protections our neighbors already have.
I am asking you today to co-sponsor Miya’s Law, to speak in favor of it in your caucus, and to vote yes when it reaches the floor. Please stand with Miya’s family, and with the Georgia renters who are counting on you.
Respectfully,
[Your name]
[Your city, GA]
With your help, Georgia will be the fourth state to say every renter deserves to feel safe behind their own front door. Add your name today.
